increasing number of young Chinese graduates from leading Art universities in the UK have chosen to continue working in the country, contrib- uting to the ever-changing UK creative scene. Having spent their formative years in both China and the UK, these artists and designers are influenced by western artistic vision and practice, and their mixed Chinese-British identity. Simultane- ously, some other graduates have returned to China, flourishing in their chosen fields. Meanwhile, many Chinese students who are currently studying Art and Design here are potential future greats.

Cheers:) aims to be an annual exhibition brand and a unique umbrella for young Chinese creative energy actively engaged in London’s Art and Design scene. It’s the first one-stop exhibition in London which intends to showcase works that represent important trends, ideas and subjects in this hybrid group of young talent, exploring the refreshing artistic impact of China-UK cross-cultural experi- ence on these artists and designers, best manifested by their works.

All exhibitors of Cheers:) 2009 are: 1) studying at Art and Design colleges in London; 2) currently working in the UK; 3) studied in the UK but currently work in China.

With China now embracing its artists and designers and a fast growing economy, a new niche has appeared in the market for cultural exhibitions. Cheers:) 2009 represents this emerging industry and illustrates that China is a country of genuine and original creativity. A tour in China of Cheers:)2009 themed Reverse Current will visit Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Taipei in 2010.

    Cheers:) London!
